1990 Mirage No Spark

Posting for a friend, he has a 1990 mits Mirage wouldn't start. No spark from coil secondary. Changed the Coil Still no spark the coil has 12 volts on the inlet. No pulse on ground. Also checked the module and it gets continuity with a 1.5 volt batt jumped from ic to g. I am looking for a procedure to check the Crank position sensor that is in the distributor. it is a 4 wire plug connected up on the fire wall. I think its either the CPS or the ECU both about $300. I don't want to just throw money at it any help will be appreciated thanks,

Steve.
