08 with cylinder 6 misfire

Driving last night and my 08 died after searching I found the ICM fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse and now it has a misfire on cylinder 6. I have changed the coil with no luck. I replaced the plugs and wires about 2 weeks ago and I don't find any problem with the plug or wire. I checked at the coil and there is no spark at all on cylinder 6. I was thinking the ICM is bad but was wanting some opinions.

Thanks
Jeff

3.8 or 5.3?

If 3.8, and you have spark on #3, swap coils and see if the problem moves with the coils....

Re: 08 with cylinder 6 misfire

remember both 6 and 3 fire at same time from the same coil......(yes the spark fires on the top of the exhaust stroke too) ...so if you have spark on 3, 6 should fire too. Just for fun, I would switch wires 3 and 6 at the coil.....and see what happens.
I.m just thinking.......is it possible that something has happened to the dented cup in the balancer that would not trig the spark when it is due on #6......however you should still have fire on #6 when it calls for # 3.....and 2008 is too young for balancer disintegration.....noooo.
..so....keep us informed of any new findings...this is interesting...

How are you checking for spark?

Re: 08 with cylinder 6 misfire

My neighbor had his dad (former Saturn dealer technician) come and he check spark and there is no spark on 3 or 6. I was checking spark wrong. He thinks it is the ICM

Yeah, something didn't sound right......you need an ICM, if you replaced the coil with a known good one, and had no spark....

Re: 08 with cylinder 6 misfire

After removing the ICM I found the valve cover had been leaking onto the ICM

Re: 08 with cylinder 6 misfire

I doubt that caused the ICM failure.....

Re: 08 with cylinder 6 misfire

Oil was in the wire harness so I assume that it caused a short.
