Post Looking at Buying a Sunfire...any advice?

Hey everyone!!

I've been looking at buying a new car and I like the look of the 2000 Sunfire GT, 2 dr, 5 spd.... and I've found a few for not too bad money.

Are they a good buy? Any problems to expect? And praise or good stories?!?

I'd appreciate any feedback!

Shel

I have a 96 SE and if I could get a new one, I'd pick an 02. The ecotecs are stronger than the 2.4s and will handle mods better. good luck!

honestly? in my opinion, read all of these posts. Many are problems. I own a sunfire, i wish i had bought the celica i was looking at. They are a cheap car, but they are not as reliable as imports.

I have a 2004 with the 1SC package, and love it!

I never thought that I'd be happy with a 4-cyl car, but the Ecotech engine has proven to be a good preformer. I'm looking forward to some of the upgrades that are coming available for it.

I've got a 4 door with the 2.2 ecotech engine and i love it, i've never had anything major wrong with it or any of the 3 sunfires i've ever driven...although the very early models did have some tranny problems.

My wife drives a 2000 sunfire and she loves it, only problem she's had was a cracked washer resevoir tank that the dealer replaced under warranty. Compared to my Ford Windstar nothing but a nightmare.

Re: Looking at Buying a Sunfire...any advice?

I just bought a 04 sunfire, and here is a great problem, i brought it home a week ago, brand new off the lot, and last night it went up in flames. no one knows the problem yet, but its a faulty part for sure. just thought you'd like to know!

I just had to have my gauge cluster removed and have a new one installed, plus my ABS/ETS had to be serviced (new harness) and a new door pin had to be installed because my radio wouldn't shut off when I opened the door after the car is turned off.

$1250 CDN to fix all.

Beware.

I have a 2003 sunfire 2 door 5 speed

as for getting a domestic well I love it!!
i always wanted an import but well lets put it this way

i paid 10 grand cash for it brand new off the lot (hehe good barginer)
have put 10 grand cash into it for aftermarket stuff and well i am at 300 330 hp and have a show quality car basically for the same price as a celica or a civic so realistically this is the better deal!!! haha

as for troubles with the car none so far but the minor things that people are running into cost pennies Plus most of those thing's get taken out if you decide to mod up your ride!

i give the sunfire and cav 2 thumb's up
you just cant beet the cost!!!!

go look at the price of a civic or a del sol with 100 - 200 thousand clicks your looking at paying 8 - 10 grand for them it is stupid !!!!!!!!
and the new ecotec engine is stonger then any stock civic engine

I have a 99 Sunfire GT convertible and I think its a great little car. I bought it used and have had it for almost three years without any major problems. All cars have their little quirks but for the money, it's a good buy (remember it is an economy car). Every time I take it in for routine maintenance, all of the mechanics tell me what a great little engine is in that car. Hope this helps!
