97 Bravada no start
Hi all
I have a no start problem and need suggestions.1997 Bravada,AWD,120K miles, floor shift. A couple days ago,my wife said that the Air-bag light came on for a few secs. while driving, but nothing else strange happened.A couple times over the past week, right after startup,it stalled after shifting into reverse, but re-started normal. Yesterday,a couple mins after startup,air-bag light comes on with seat-belt light flashing(I wasn't wearing the belt),car loses power for about 2 secs, lights go out and it returns to running as normal. Today, the problem. She started it,shifted into reverse and it died.No restart. Engine cranks,no dash lights at all, won't shift out of park with foot on brake pedal.Key on,brake lights work when pedal pushed,so not likely that it's the pedal switch. When you push the button on the shifter you hear a click under the dash, probably in the column,or close to it. So,that's the situation and I need suggestions as to the "likelies". I'm thinking it's the ignition switch, but don't want to tear the column apart unless it's pretty likely that that's the problem. Any thoughts? |

Re: 97 Bravada no start
Ignition switches are a common issue on those year GM trucks, I would replace it on GP. Not the key cyl but the actual ign switch.

Re: 97 Bravada no start
\no,the lock isn't really involved with the switch.
I'm going to try dropping the column without removing the wheel. Hopefully. |

Re: 97 Bravada no start
Most suspected is ignition switch and wiring

Re: 97 Bravada no start
I guess I'm with you guys.
I've read several posts here and there with the same conditions that were fixed by a new switch.I've had this car for about 2 years and since I got it,the key would only work one way,not the way it's supposed to work. So,I'll do the switch and lock cyl. just because I'll have the column torn down. Thanks for the opinions. |
