Pricing a good LeBaron

Hello,

This is my first time posting here and I currently own two autos. I currently drive (more like "am forced to drive") a 1989 Voyager =(. But my other car is a 1989 Chrystler LeBaron. I was just curious about possibly a way to find a 2.2 TurboII engine or maybe a whole new LeBaron. I've scrounged the internet over and over looking for one.

Also, would it be possible to maybe just get a bolt on turbo for a LeBaron?

Thanks

Well, you came to the right place. I can tell you anything you need to know to put the Turbo II in your car, or modify it. I would love to see some other Baron enthusiasts here in the forums.

Let's start off with some basics. What model of LeBaron do you have: Highline, Premium, or GTC? What engine do you have: 2.2L I4, 2.5L I4, 3.0L V6? Do you have a manual or an automatic transmission?

Unhappy

I too have an '89 LeBaron, and I love it. It's not turbo, but I don't really need it. I have a rocking Truck and Bike to fill those speed voids.

My question is about the power steering pump in my LeBaron. It seems to have died, and I am so frustrated with it. It screams, and all fluid leaks almost immediately. Is this common? Will a new pump and hoses fix this issue? HELP!!!

I would replace the hoses, then if it still hass problems replace the pump as well. The dealership replaced my PS pump when I know all I needed was new hoses.

Talking

I replaced the hoses and "Yeah" no leaks, but still screamed from the pump. I must have run it out of fluid and destoyed the bearings. A pump from a salvage yard ($15.00) and it's all set. Finally I have my summer convertable back. This car sat on Long Isalnd, NY for 2 years without being started. It's so nice to have revived it. I love the car. No turbo, but who needs it with a pumped 350 in my truck and 1300CC's in my bike...

True, but once you go turbo, you will never go back.

Replace the stock air box with a KN cone filter, then open up the exhaust for starters.

Sweet! Another 89 GTC!

There are some sites you should look at that will tell you a ton of cheap things you can do yourself to get performance. Just click the links below.

This first site is the Dodge Garage. They guy who created and runs the site owns a Plymouth Reliant that runs 10s in the 1/4. See the sidebar for all the links to hop up ideas that you'll need. He also has some fun stuff you can buy.

Donovan's Dodge Garage.

This next site is called Forward Motion. They specialize in upgrade stages to make you FWD Mopar go really fast.

Forward Motion Inc.

This last one is created and run buy a guy I know personally that owns an Omni GLH that he calls the Omnivore, he also makes 12 second mini-vans. His site has a lot of things you can do for a low cost to make your car faster.

Dempsey Bowling's Homepage.

Hope those help you out.

You have a bad selenoid. Look at the wastegate, find the vacuum line that comes out of it and follow it until you get to a little black box with other vacuum connections hooked up to it. Thats the selenoid. I don't know if you can get a new one at the parts store, try it but if not you'll just have to go to the junkyard.

Well, you must remember that he is a turbo I engine. His boost is between 5-7PSI. Though the solonid could be bad, I would check it out. You should be able to get up to 7PSI.

If you want more boost than that you're going to need an intercooler, and I'm not sure how strong the internals are on the 2.5L TBI.

Hey Polygon, my Daytona is a Turbo I and I get about 9-9.5 PSI on my stock boost gauge. Then I changed my factory boost gauge with a better aftermarket one thinking it must just be the gauge and it reads about 8.5-9 PSI. I know stock is supposed to be 7.5. I checked and the bleed was never done, it's just a solid vacuum line from the wastegate to the selenoid. Whatsup with that???

You can put an intercooler on yours so that you can raise the boost, but I would find out how tough the internals are first.

To change to the Turbo II you would have to change your the head, the turbo, and the ECU, possibly the internals, and get the inercooler. It would be a lot of money and a lot of work.
