High temp.

My radiator temp is startting to rise everytime i stand stil voor a short time. The problem is that the cooling fan on my radiator doesn't turn on anymore. Is a temp sensor the problem en where kan i find it?

My car is a civic '89 ed7 with a d16a9 (ed9) build in.

well check fuses, then the wires to the fan with a circuit tester to see if it is live, if not then flush your rad and check the levels, hope it helps

cheerz

The temp sensor for the cooling fan is on the back of the block...near the oil filter, and the oil pressure sensor....It will be hard to see because of the intake manifold..it will prolly be easier to locate from under the car looking up behind the oil pan...it has two little prongs for the wire connections coming out of it about 15mm long. It requires a large wrench (or maybe a deep socket) to get it out...if I remember it is like 21 mm or larger!! - I removed mine with a pair of channel lock pliers (vice grips may work too since they lock) because I don't own a deep socket set that large.

I think the fuse is in the engine compartment in the main fuse box.

it is more a pain in the ass than a LOT of work.

You'll need to get the car up high enough that you can literally almost climb under it to get back that far...Once you are under there, it should be fairly visible. just pull the two wires off then remove the sensor.

For things like that I suggest buying a properly sized socket or a specialty socket for such things. I never like to use any type of pliars to get off something that may be stuck on pretty hard because you risk stripping it and that will ruin your day.

I had the same prob. with my 90 hatch. I finnaly figured out that somethin was wrong with the wiring or somethin. SO what i did was Hook a Toggle switch to the fan. now i can turn it on or off whenever i feel like it, so when the temp goes up i turn the fan on and it goes right back down..

I had a similar problem with my fan not turning. I had checked all the fuses, they were all fine. It turned out to be the fan's relay. It is a real simple job to replace it.

Absolutely...I don't recommend using the wrong tool for the wrong job either...so if I didn't imply it, get the right tools!!!

Also, someone mentioned the relay...don't really know how to test that unless you have a manual that tells you what type of voltage readings you should be expecting. - but you could probably swipe one of those from a junkyard pretty cheap. The radiator fan relay is right behind the passenger side headlight (there are two relays there) - it is the one closer to the stock airbox. Sometimes those things get stuck too..make sure the wires are connected well, and whack it when you think it should be running...sometimes knocking it loose will fix it too

If you still run this setup then wire it up to the ignition so that it only gets power when the key is in position II.

Actually i hooked my toggle switch to the headlight fuse. I always have my lights on when i am riding so i figured that would be the best way, and that way when i turn the lights off there is no power to the switch.
