Talking PROGRESS! Fujimi Nissan Sileighty!

well, i know some of you regulars will be shocked to see this. a progress thread from me??? well, pick your jaws up off the floor, cause it's true!

so ever since i started making models of Japanese cars, i've been on a never-ending search for a Sileighty. it's the car i want to build in real life, and thus i wanted to make a model of it as well. i couldn't order from HLJ or HobbySearch, as i didn't have access to a credit card. so i go to my local hobby shop one day, and there, staring me in the face, is the Fujimi Initial D Sileighty. i paid $45 Canadian for it, but i don't care. it was WAY worth it, because i've been looking for one for at least 3 years now.

anyways, the plans were originally to make a super-boro flat-black drifter version, but i've done such a good job on the primer (IMO) that it would be an injustice to just paint over it with flat black. so i've decided to go with Tamiya Mica Red (don't remember the TS code name off-hand), and i'm still debating on wheels. my 2 choices are: 1) convert Aoshima Advan RG's to fit Fujimi car or b) use 16" BBS mesh wheels that came with it, but with centre's painted gold. any help on that wheel decision would be appreciated! i'm also going to use a styrene FMIC made by me as per FlyOnTheWall's instructions, and i'm going to try to make an exhaust out of aluminum tubing. some slight camber will be added to the wheel angles, and the wing used is the Wangan style wing that came with the kit, which is also the wing i want to put on my real-life Sileighty. shock absorbers will be painted green and silver to replicate Tein HA's, the shocks i want on my real car. the plastic bit between the headlights was painstakingly removed by hand by me with a modeller's knife. i think S13's look the best when there's nothing in between the headlights, not even a grille.

so here she is almost all primed up. one more coat was put on after these pictures were taken, possibly the last coat.

You're one of the few that's rarer than me! Well, making the car you love is surely a plus, and will help keep you working!! Can't wait for more....

(are you putting anything in your new center hole? a fan, maybe?)

when the chassis is put under the body, the very top of the radiator peeks out of the hole. i've test-fitted, and when you look through the hole, you can see the very top of the rad.

Glad you finally got the model you've been searching for. And oh what a sick model that is. Now I'll give you one of my FC's for it . Anyway, I think you should use the Advan RG's. That'd look tight.

I make my exhausts with some brass and metal tubing. If you need any help on how to keep them together, I'll tell you what i did (you can see what it looks like on my Efini RX-7 FD). I don't feel like typing a whole bunch now.
