Question OEM Amplifier Converter?

I have a 93.5 that I wish to change the head unit for one with a CD Player. I realize that I need an adapter to tap into the stock system amplifiers and such. No one seems to know what I am talking about. Best Buy & Circuit City (Clueless) Local Automotive HiFi wanted to charge me $200 plus dollars to install adapter stating that cutting and splicing was required both at the amplifiers and the head unit area (Not what I was looking for). I recognize that Crutchfield has one for $50 if you purchase one of their head units.

Any suggestions on where I could pick one up other than crutchfield. I am not interested in changing the whole system, just want CD.

I would also consider picking up a used OEM CD headunit, however I have heard that the 94 and newer models will not fit the wiring harness in my 93.5. Is this true? I don't think many people out there would be willing to cut into their stock wiring to provide me with their wiring harness if they sell OEM.

Any info is greatly appreciated or if anyone is looking to sell what I am looking for please respond.

Thanks,
DJ

They are car audio monkeys.

All you need to use the stock amps is:

1) A new CD player headunit
2) A wire harness adapter (to plug into your car one) $20 avg
3) A bipolar antenna adapter (nissan to legacy) $15 avg
4) An inline dB reducer. this will go between the new wire harness to the car and the wire harness to the new headunit. You will need one for all four channels front/rear left/right. Adjust the level so that you do not distort sound at full volume. Roughly $40ish maybe more depending on what you get.

For the headunit I have a rockford fosgate. They do not distort and will also play MP3's. You need to know your budget first, then go looking.

Good luck!

For #2, make sure you buy a headunit with high-level output and not preamp outputs.
And for #4, you won't have to do this if you find a headunit that doesn't act as an amplifier also.

Thanks for the Reply

Last Question on this Subject. I am assuming that Radio Shack might have an In-Line DB reducer. Am I correct or do I need to get a special one through Crutchfield or another mobil audio retailer.

Thanks

Ok this is what I did and it was really cheap. I have a dope Alpine cda7949 from my old system which has no built in amps so I needed to use the weak stock amps. I also went to a car audio shop and they gave me some ridiculous price that insulted my intelligence so I decided to tackle this on my own.

What you want to do is go to good guys or local big consumer electronic store that has somewhat of a car audio department. Go to the back where they do the install and buy an 1) adapter for a nissan antenna to the kind that your aftermarket head unit 2) The brand may vary but I bought a signal line converter for around 30 bucks by a company called Periferal ( spelling may be wrong). Its a bulky box about 5"x3"x1" has a bunch of colored paired wires and small holes on the top with recessed screws which you can adjust the gains (volume).

If your head unit has RCAs what you want to do is buy a cheap set of rcas or some you have sitting around. Cut them at the wires so you can splice them to the colored ones of the line converter. All you got to do is hook up the head unit and match one RCA to a set of colored wires on the converter when the head unit is on. Set your head unit only on the speaker your trying to match. For example: For the front right speaker, set the Balance on your head unit to the right only and set the Fade to the front. There's only four pairs of colored wires left so it doesn't take too much experimentation. The Line converters come with clear strait forward instructions. What it doesn't tell you and I highly recommend is after you get everything running and are about to bolt everything together try to wire/tape down the line convertor to something. If your car is droped and bounces that box, in not tied down will smack around and make a bunch of noise.

Putting the head unit in can be a little tricky too. My alpine trim piece fit well but I used a few washers to push the unit forward enough for the trim to piece to catch. Hopefully I'll have pic of my system soon. I love car audio a lot and would be bold enough to say that I plan to have the best quality sounding system in a P10. You'll see...hope this helps.

No problem, if you bump into any problems I'll try to help out my fellow 93.5 owner.
