back door window

hi everyone i have a 97 malibu w the 3.1, the back driverside door window wont go down unless i push it down, if i only use the switch i hear the motor working it appears it came out of the track that operates it. I would like to know how i can repair this myself thanks

so if you push it down it goes down.....does it go back up by itself, if the up button is pushed?

If yes, than it seems the window is not attached to the regulator.....you will have to remove the door panel to see what is broken.....

goes up like normal

As Tech II stated, You will need to remove the door panel and do a visual inspection, there are a few different conditions that will cause this.

the plastic guides break . this can happen with age or someone used a bar to force the window down breaking the plastic guide.
