1/24 Manhole Covers

Gionc and I have in development a new product! -

Photoetched 1/24 Manhole Covers, for use in enhancing scale street scenes. We intend to make probably one set, each containing manhole covers from several different cities. They will be accurate scale depictions of the unique covers from those cities- perfect for adding a feel of location and authenticity to the street scene you're building.

So far, included in the set will be:

Munich,

Tokyo,

London (probably), and Miami Beach. Were also open to suggestions for one or two others. The criteria are- Cool car town, with a good car culture; with a unique, distinctive, and cool design of manhole covers; that people would realistically want to build street scenes of.

Design work is underway, and we will post updates when we know availability and pricing.

Both Germany and Japan have fantastic manhole cover designs everywhere you look- so it becomes an exercise in picking the best car related places with good designs in those countries. Italy and Britain unfortunately both seem to tend towards plain, boring designs- but we're still looking for good ones there! (From viewing in Google Maps, Modena seems to have the most bland, generic design that can be cast in iron )

Aren't manholes in Venice called plug holes?

It's surprising when you think of how many thousands of these things are installed in every large city. An ugly casting is the same cost as a gorgeous casting once the pattern is made.

Neat idea btw.
