Are the 1997 Firebird's any good???

The dealer has one for sale that i'm thinking about buying.
It's a 1997 firebird , 3.8L,5 speed,
What should i look for when i take it for a test drive?
The car is very cleen with low Km's(it's in Canada).
New brakes,t-bar,new tires,ect.
I never had a car like this befor and just want to know what should i look for.
Bill

The V6s are very reliable.

Look for rear pinion seal leaks.

Right, Check around the Rear End area for leaks and check around the oil pan. Also see how the suspension is by turning the car right to left so that it has a little roll in it. One more thing is check the front tires. The reason I say front tires is, usually any person with a 5-speed RWD car will do a few burnouts pretty easy and usually the dealer just rotates the tires.

Thanks for the replays.I went and bought the car after.Everything turned out perfict with the car. Also i got the name of the last owner and i was sursprized to find out she lives nexed door to my mother. So i went over and talked to her about the car.

The firebird came only with winter tires.Witch are almost new.
I will be looking for a nice set of summer tires for her next.

Sounds like you found a good firebird and at least a lady was the owner of it before. Not some kid....

My 97V8 bird is a blast....for like 14 g's , its worth it , so much more fun then a V6, if you get the LT1 you will be happier. on the v6 you will most likely blow the head gasket within 110 k miles. if you have an oil leak check oil pan, valve covers, crank and pinion seals. check if the gears whine to check for a bad DIF gear box. see if it overheats, check for any strange noises like ticking or or bell like sound in the engine. Also check the exhaust for a blue tinge or real white tinge. If you check the ECM you can see what problems the car may have had and still has after the battery may have been disconected to hide a check engine light. Change the oil and filter every 3 k miles and check your collant level. there is a choke vavle on the upper radiator pump leading to the thermostat housing...to get bubbles out of your radiator lossen the screw while the engie is runnin but not to much only a little!! This will cause better flow of collant and proper use of the radiator cap venting (RT) recovery tank presure.

My fault, you already own the new bird, thats good. YOu will have better insurance rates, good gas millege, and a less noisy engine being less of a cop magnet. It was a good choice, the ladies love the bird its a pimp mobile.
