removing the cover/trim behind steering wheel

93 lumina. I got the steering wheel off just fine and the little plastic piece directly behind it as well(where the hazards switch is). I've been trying to figure out how to get this piece (notice finger) off. I removed the wheel, plastic trim, headlight switch, and turn signal lever. I then removed 2 big bolts, dropping the steering column so I could get to a star-bolt on the right side of it and I can't really figure out how to get any further. How do I get it out from the gear shift and ignition? Is this piece just a trim piece or would I have to get the whole column?

(I'm wanting to make it all black since I got a black steering wheel) Not really interested in spray painting it either, tacky!
