I don't normally work with die cast, but I have a repair to do, some small eyelets which broke off, so they are small parts
I know die cast is actually aluminum+zinc, so I can't solder them on, and I don't want to just rely on model glue as that won't be strong enough, the suspension is articulated so needs to be durable I'm considering JB weld, but then it will likely be a "blob" of epoxy, which is unsightly! Has anyone used a specific product for this kind of repair, that they can recommend? Thanks! |

Re: bonding die cast??
Epoxy or super glue. Use as little as it will take to the hold the parts on to avoid excess.

Re: bonding die cast??
I could use regular resin or epoxy glue I have, but it's not what I'm looking for
The parts broken are small, and being an articulated parts (suspension) it needs to be a stronger bond for durability What I'm looking for is something specifically for bonding aluminum, with the greatest strength, much like how aluminum parts are bonded to each other in a production car (for example) |

Re: bonding die cast??
Auto manufacturers use a high strength epoxy to bond parts together.
You may need to go to the auto parts store and look at what they have in the resin epoxy department. You'd be amazed at the bonding strength a high quality epoxy can provide.

ya I've looked through the usual suspects at the stores, I may have found one though, from the Loctite pro/commercial adhesives product line

Re: bonding die cast??
that's just a retail superglue, not specifically for diecast, the powder just helps in the speed of the glue setting, it does nothing to help structurally as needed in this application
the proper bonding agent is available, what I found though an industrial chemical supply store actually, not just a retail 2 part resin nor a cyranoacrylate glue, which is key |
