1997 Chevy Silverado Brakes squealing

For the past 2 months or so, my brakes sound like a horn when I get close to a full stop. The pads are about 7 months old. Brake fluid is good. Oil isn't fresh but I changed it about 9 months ago. 1997 Chevy Silverado C1500 2WD 5.7L. Any ideas?

First off, is the noise coming from the front or the rear?

If the front, were the rotors turned? Feeling any pulsation in the steering wheel?

Did you do the work or a garage?

the pads will make noise if they are low quality. the material is hard and will vibrate to make this noise.

remove the brake pads, then brush on some anti sieze paste to the metal backing plate of the pads.

this will stop any sound from the pads vibrating.also helps the pads from getting stuck/binding in the caliper.

I would also remove the rear drums and inspect the brake shoes. if the shoes are worn only at the top then the drum is worn out / too big. this adds to the front brakes making noise.

now however this issue is not really your major problem , soon this vehicle is going nowhere.

I did the work but brake pads are very simple to replace...to me anyway. It's coming from the front but it only makes this noise when I release the pedal slowly to keep the truck from jolting or when I stop it completely and then release the pedal. It happens when the truck rocks back into position. I've heard what noise my truck makes when the pads are worn away and this is not that noise. It sounds like some oil would be needed but I have no idea.

Turns out that both side real axle seals are leaking...just something else to fix on my truck...
