I have a 1985 Reliant and have this grey box under the dash

This box was held in with ty-wraps and has a whole wiring harness associated with it. Nowhere that I can find is it identified in the factory service manuals. It is gray in color, has "DANA CORP PRECISION CONTROLS DIVISION" in the center of it and says "Replace regulator with one of the same color. Regulator adjustment may be necessary" and the only numbers on it are on the end above the connector and is 7 R 0106B95-AE. With Plymouth being gone, it's hard to even go to the dealership and give them the 'what the heck is this thing'. I am trying to figure out if this might be the cause of why the car runs very roughly when you drive it. It idles fine in the driveway, but the minute you put it in gear and press the accelerator it bogs down like it has no power and then picks up. Please help me identify this thing and possibly find some wiring diagrams to go with it.
