Re: 1999 chevy rubbing sound when turning
Its a 1999 chevy silverado 4x4 with a 4.8 L v-8. The sound is like plastic or something rubbing when you turn at low speeds. Its sounds like its coming from the steering column.

Re: 1999 chevy rubbing sound when turning
Most likely the intermediate steering shaft needs to be lubed. Do a search in the forum. It's pretty common.

sounds are hard to figure out on the internet. as was mentioned the lubrication of the ISS does cure some problems with noise/thump feel in the steering wheel when turning. this is also common on some toyota vehicles. greasing these shaft splines usually stops the noise. also some were made with poor qualty control so the slop was so bad these ISS components required replacing. I just use a lithium based grease EP2 type. I would also jack up vehicle and grease/inspect all the front end steering components. also if you haven't done it yet replace the power steering fluid. |
