fujimi civic EK9 time attack/track car

hello,
i picked up this kit just for fun as they are so cheap, its a kind of freestyle build as a track car, more accurately a time attack weapon i guess.

first thing i knew i'd do is modify the interior, being a stripped out race car and this kit having the usual fujimi whole interior that sits on the chassis, which i will not be using, i had to do a mock up of the rear section of the floor pan.

its not perfect scale accurate, as that would have involved way to much work on the chassis itself than what this build is supposed to be for me.
so i made the rear quarter inner panels from styrene, and used putty for filling in parts of the floor to get the basic design down.
Also added the shock towers while i was at it.
Still more to be done but you get the idea.....
I also cut out the rear section that held the spare wheel to fit the defuser.

I had to trim the rear bumper trimmed to accommodate this as well as the floor pan mentioned before.

you can see the rear wing there too,
the rear wing stays were an after thought, i tried lots of different ideas but nothing worked this well.
I guess its a bit rocket bunny style... but it works!
so the -to be painted aluminum- main supports are just styrene sheet, on top of that are some leftover stays from a fujimi wing set, as are the end plates.
the element itself is from a fujimi r33 gtr.
I will also be fitting the type R small lip kind of wing that sits above the rear window, ansd i might still add a gurney flap to the wing as well.
oh and the holes in the wing stays will be bigger.....

the front hubs needed a fair bit of work. had to get rid of the pathetic front brakes!
So a new brembo brakes (from a fujimi silvia s13 kit) along with the hubs that are designed to fit the disks on the S13 it came from which made up most of the hub, the rest was done in styrene tube.
i also needed to also modify these hubs to fit male fitment resin wheels.
they are 17" Advan RG2 resin wheels from hobby design that i had sitting around.

the rears were also modified internally to fit the wheels, i did keep the std rear brakes though.

also modified the front cross member, as it had molded into it part of the exhaust which i didn't want, I have bent a piece of styrene tube to go in its place.
the rear section of the exhaust was also removed with the use of a dremel so i can exit the exhaust out the side after leaving the muffler.

the fenders/guards also need a bit of widening, started by using a bit of styrene to get a uniform extension, i will use putty for shaping.
....now i just need to do the front aero.

Re: fujimi civic EK9 time attack/track car

A bit more progress.
The front bar got a shave on the lower lip and then extended it using very thin styrene sheet. It will get a undertray to finish it off.
I was restricted a bit at what i could do to the bar as it houses the chassis fitment points in the lower lip that i extended.
otherwise i would have changed the bar more extensively.

As you can see i also did some GT style venting of the front fenders / guards, along with extended side skirts (which are not finished yet)
sorry no how to here but first i cut out the section i wanted gone, then shaped all the styrene sheet, started from top to the bottom building it as i went, still some cleaning up to do but the structure is there. It was much easier than i was expecting to be honest! I also had to put a backing plate on the chassis as you can see in the last photo, just to fill the hole behind the cutout.

Re: fujimi civic EK9 time attack/track car

so i was able to do the front today, here's what i came up with...
i knew i wanted canards, the problem with these is always attaching them, but i've always though the end plates are kinda cool on alot of time attack cars so i had a crack at them, that solved the attaching to the bar itself problem, as these and the undertray are a separate piece to the bar itself, for painting purposes.

now with all the styrene work done, its time for lots of putty haha....

This is great! I have something similar coming together, though not as nicely! I look forward to seeing this progress!

Re: fujimi civic EK9 time attack/track car

hi all,
so after plenty of putty and sanding here is where the civic is right now.
almost there, it will get one last sanding before top coat to get all the imperfections out.

i have also shaved off the mirror mounting points on the doors as i will fit some aero type mirrors.

Re: fujimi civic EK9 time attack/track car

I also managed to break a wheel
you need to be very careful with these resin wheels, the spokes are tiny!
i was taking a tyre off and just put a little too much pressure on the inner part of the rim.
lucky i can now make a resin copy....otherwise i would have been finding a replacement set.

Re: fujimi civic EK9 time attack/track car

Those Hobby Design wheels can be brittle, and when trying to squeeze some Aoshima or Fujimi tire on them... scary moments. I have broken some spokes, too, and a lot of the thin edge around the bead. Bummer.

Your body work looks tremendous, the wheel arches are perfect. This is going to be a great model!
