Question 1993 Z71 4x4 no 2nd gear

A friend has a 1993 4x4 Z71 automatic that has lost 2nd gear. He has drained the fluid and it does not smell burnt and color is fine. He does notice what seems like dust in it but it has no texture when try to feel the dust. The fluid did seem to have some sludge like gunk in bottom of container He drained it into. ANY IDEAS? BAnds? Servo? Thanks ANY Help GREATLY Appreiciated.. Happy Holidays!!
