Riviera of Fire!

Ok, I'm going to be building a Riviera. It's going to be a canvas for a Real Fire/airbrush tutorial. With as many videos just on Youtube available, I'm not going to get into any really deep detail, but I just want to share my technique and hopefully inspire a few of you to try it for yourself.

First off, you need to watch a few instructional vids to familiarize yourself with the process. Look at some real fire and how it "licks" what it is consuming and how if flows. A quick google search for "fire" turns up a plethora of inspiration.

here's a tip with some pictures to keep you entertained until I can get underway with the actual building of the model.

First off you need a stencil. Now you can buy some pre-made stencils or again, google "real fire stencils" and quite a few will show up.

I found some semi-transparent plastic note book dividers in my son's school supplies and laid it over the screen and simply copied it with a sharpie.

I did test this plastic to be sure it would stand up to the lacquers and solvents used in painting. it worked nicely, so I went on and cut it out with my favorite scalpel and smoothed any jagged edges with a rotary nail file (has a much lower RPM than a dremel and it's cordless).

as you can see, I've tested these before and they need cleaned, and will stand up to some lacquer thinner.

keep tuned, I will actually be building something here.

Thanks for looking!

I will be watching this closely. I am just getting brave with my airbrush, so any tutorial is helpful!

Re: Riviera of Fire!

we've had some pretty wet days recently, I promise within the next few days, I should have a substantial update. Sorry for taking so long.

Re: Riviera of Fire!

Ah yes the weather.
I'm hoping for a nice day on one of my days off to get in some low altitude painting practice.
I'm looking forward to seeing some fire from you too.

Re: Riviera of Fire!

Ok, good weather today, I'll be shooting the primer and at least the base coats this evening after work. For now, I do have a small update.

I have a firm belief that your paint is only as good as what you are putting it on, with that said, here's a few pics of the body prepped for primer. I've scribed the trim and panel lines and block sanded the body, debadged and shaved everything but the wipers (they looked good enough to keep, plus it's a pain to get to).

Here's the panel lines and trim a little more defined
