Revell Ferrari California

I put the finishing touches on my California this morning and shot some final pics.
Many of you have followed the WIP and I am very grateful.
Thank you.

This is a Revell California with the KA Models photoetch set and some scratch built details as I saw fit.

See the WIP here.

See my Fotki here with additional pics not covered in the write ups.

The body was painted with Testors Model Master black lacquer and 2 part urethane automotive clear.
I added a very subtle body kit that was pictured in the WIP.
Driver side keyhole was added with a PE screw.
Wheels are custom 21"/22" setup that I made on a CAD program and had printed at shapeways.com.
I used the Pegasus tires that claim to be 23" but measure out just above 20".
I added Hobby Design valve stems.

This picture highlights the scratch built hood release and the stretched sprue headlights.
I drilled out holes where applicable to add depth, drilled out the fluid tops, turned them on my dremel, painted them separately and reattached. (Blue and clean in the right of the picture).
The engine bay was painted a dark gray, has PE washers added that were painted semigloss black, and got flat black on the weather stripping.
The goal in all of this was to create depth through contrast.

The red interior drove me crazy.
I painted it three times total, stripping it twice.
Seatbelts were added.
The doors were rebuilt to add better tweeters and pockets in the doors.
Cleaned up the dash to remove Revell's giant stitching that ruined the dash.
Rebuilt the A/C vents with styrene rod
Added other detail and Studio27 Carbon Fiber decals as needed.
Leather handles on the seats are Tamiya yellow tape painted the same color as the seats.
I think this represented leather in scale very well.
I scribed the seats to add seam detail to give it depth and realism.

Tinted rear lights.
Carbon fiber license plate frame.

Thank you again for all of the support!
Andy

Re: Revell Ferrari California

Not bad for a Walmart kit

This is the new standard for all black paintjobs and Revell Californias.

Re: Revell Ferrari California

Looks fab. We need to do a tutorial on CAD design and 3d printing. It's really not that difficult and can extend the abilities of any model builder soooooo far. With it you can make anything. Your imagination is your only limitation.
