99 Durango transmission

ok I really hope someone can help. I have a 4x4 5.2L 99 Durango. Everything was running great and the all of a sudden I started it to go to work one morning and it would not move. Now its making a grinding/whinning noise when its not in park, it tries to move when I put it in gear but has the grinding/whinning noise and is real sluggish. Then after its running for about 5 min it wont move or go in gear at all. Im so frustrated. I have had reg. transmission fluid changes and was running great. now this. Ive checked the fluid and its full to. Its my only family ride and we have 6 kids. can someone please please help me and tell me what it could be?

Oh, also I dropped the fluid pan and it has some metal shavings in it, which I think is normal? But it smells burnt really bad.!

rayray how did your tranny filter look when you dropped the pan? Sounds like it is due for a servicing, the filter could be clogged.

Re: 99 Durango transmission

it was full of gunk. Completely blocked from what it looks like.. that would be great if that all it is. could that cause the grinding and sluggishness.

Re: 99 Durango transmission

That filter being gunked up could have been starving the trans of fluid and holding pressure very low. Newer trannys are sensitive to stuff like that.
