1998 F 150 4.6 or 5.4

I am looking at 2 1998 F 150s, one with 174,000 miles the other 176,000 and both 4x4 and good condition. One is 4.6 engine and other is 5.4. Both say 14 mpg, but which is the better choice. I don't care about gas mileage, but want the best power and maintenance history.

thanks,
Sally

Generally speaking , the larger engine will make more power so if that is your priority then so be it . As far as maintenance history , I wouldn't think there would be much of a difference between the two as I think ( not sure though ) they're basically the same engine with the difference being internal specs ( bore or stroke ) . I don't claim to be an expert on these two engines and may be way off base in my statements ? Good luck !
