6 disc changer questions. Loss of system information if i change?

So my wife has a 06 g6. She has the 6 disc changer radio. It also displays all system information on it rather than the dash. I done a little research on the 6 disc changers, and they seem faulty. It was working fine one day, then the next i went to load the cd and you could hear it break. I took it apart, but had no clue on how to fix it, or if it was even fixable. She would be fine if it would just load 1 cd, shes just upset because she has no cd functions now. So, if anyone thinks this can be fixed, please chime in. Otherwise, here is my question.

I called my local audio shop and they said i could put any aftermarket radio in, but i would have to buy a new dash cluster that would make all system info display on the dash. Cost was really high, wanting to say close to $300. Is there a lower cost option out there to where i can continue to see the system info on the radio? Just to clarify, the system info displays fine now i just don't want to lose it.
