growling front end

my 2000 silverado has started to growl/grind intermittantly...it doesn't appear to be the wheel bearings, or the brakes. this started after a short usage of 4x4 low. it seems like it isn't disengaging or slips back in at low rpms.....or i really have no idea what i am talking about please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

with your 4X4 drive train you will get the sevice 4 wheel drive light to come on if it is broken.also you will not be able to change from 4X4 hi to 2wd.

growling canbe the front wheel bearings. nosies can be the transfercase also. check the fluid in the transfercase. it should be blue. if black then its the transfercase that is broken.

jack up the front axles and remove tires push back pistons on brake cal . rotate the hubs and compare both sides. look at back at the bearing seal for grease leakage and rusty grease. also check for BK pads being worn.
