Easy 350-400whp

I am looking for a car that can cheaply make 350whp. I can spent around $20,000, but what I'm looking for is a car that is cheap to upgrade not necessarily cheap to buy. Looking to spend around $5,000 - $8,000 on upgrades.

Some of my criteria:

- Would prefer if the car is a tuner. (No civics )
- Would like it to be turbocharged.
- NEEDS to be reliable after the modifications.
(My definition of reliable is being able to abuse it at the strip and drive home with peace of mind or go on long trips without worrying about breaking something.)

I have looked at Evo's (heard some quality issues), Sti's ( twice the cost to get 350whp as an Evo), and the 240sx (reliability problems).

Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Easy 350-400whp

Mustangs. The late 90's model cobra had pretty much a bullet proof 4.6 DOHC that was nearly indestructible! Produced about 320 hp stock. You should be able to squeeze out a few more ponies with a little extra boost? The 2000 Cobra R would be a sweet ride, but they are still quite pricey given there was a limited production run of those. If you don't like mustangs I really don't have any other suggestions. They are cheap and you get more bang for your buck in the hp department than just about any other car out there. If you want to go older those 5.0 engines have a huge aftermarket and you can crank out some serious ponies if your willing to go that route. Good luck!
