R u %#@*# kidding me?!
2004 Yukon XL Denali...only 75000 miles.
Yesterday my granddaughter tried to get out of the passenger door right behind me, and the handle just pulled all the way out and nothing happened. I tried it a few times and sure enough, it doesn't operate the latch. Like so many Suburban/Yukon owners, I went through this crap with my '96, having to replace all the inner door handles and 2 of the outer ones over time. You'd think by now this would have been fixed. This really pizzes me off because I don't have time to keep screwing with all this little GM crap-quality stuff (just had to pull the instrument cluster and replace all the guages). So...what's the best source for a new handle....Auto Zone? OH, yeah....I just noticed my 3rd brake light isn't working. More GM crap!

Re: R u %#@*# kidding me?!
As your Auto ages, the plastic, rubber, and gaskets will go bad on all Auto types.
Maybe some of the new Good Wrench/AC Delco parts are aftermarket parts. See ABS (Plastic) Chrome, www.partsgeek.com Also do an Ebay search ''GM Yukon door handle'' for best price + shipping. |

Re: R u %#@*# kidding me?!
OK...even after working on cars for 40+ years I'm not getting any smarter. I bought a handle rather than take everything apart without having a replacement. But the Yuk had to go back to the upholstery shop for some other issues, and when I asked the guy to replace the handle he said he just flipped the "child safety lock" switch and it works again. I thought I had done that, but apparently I didn't do it right. Oh, #%*&@!
Anyway, FYI it's not any of the electric switches like the one for the window lock. It's on the edge of the door below the latch and is just a very small plastic lever --- just the kind of thing a CHILD wil play with when getting in or out of the door because it is right at CHILD level eyesight. Sigh :P

Re: R u %#@*# kidding me?!
That was my first thought but just like "child proof caps"... leave it to a child.

Re: R u %#@*# kidding me?!
Actually, my 21 year old daughter did similar, couldn't open the rear door on one side on Mrs. Cusser's 2005 Denali Christmas Eve. Christmas morning, I had the panel half-off, noticed the drawing of what looked like a spaceman, that apparently is the designation for a child lock-in. If GM had only used some of those 26 letters I learned in pre-school, that would've helped.
Mrs. Cusser has had this 2 years, and I drive it every few months. I figure that I know what about 40% at most of the buttons are. I need to consult the owner's manual - and of course get hopped from one chapter to another, it's GM - to do just about anything. There's a 6-CD unit where the CDs go into the hidden bowels of the Yukon, so one day when Mrs. Cusser was in the grocery store I thought about trying a CD in the Navigation Unit DVD slot. Anyway, that unit is covered in a completely different manual, which we didn't have with us, so I didn't try it. I heard replacement DVD disc is several hundred dollars....didn't want to risk scratching it... |
