b16a1 into a 98 EX

I saw a previous post about a b16 into a 98 civic but reading, the guy didn't really say what b16 he was putting in etc...

So, on that note, I have a friend that's selling me a b16a1 dirt cheap. I want to throw it in my 98 civic ex and from my knowledge that shouldn't be a prob. But in my searching I found a chart that says I can't do it because of the chasis which threw me off a little.

Any help would be great,
Thanks

The problem with a B16A1 in your 98 is, it is OBD 0 and you car is OBD II, not to mention that your car has a hydraulic actuated transmission and the B16A1 is cable. So in order to get it in your car you need to get a hydraulic tranny, along with all the appropriote sensors. In all actuality it would be about the same price to just get the correct motor for your car to begin with. A JDM B16A from a 96-98 SiR or SiRII, B16A2 from a 96-97 delsol, B18C1 from a 96 + GSR, would be good choices. You can also get a hold of a B16A2 from a 99-00 Si, but you will have to do some minor wiring since it is an OBD IIb.

The one thing with my car right now is this, it's an automatic, so I will be changing it over anyway. Now with that in mind, is it still not worth it?

You can get an auto B series, but the cams are weak. Or you can do the manual to auto conversion.

Hehehe, got the 98 for $2,500, so I said heck yeah. Down fall was is that it's an automatic. I was going to to the auto to manual conversion with the d16 but then decided might as well do the whole thing.

im running a b16a with an autobox, im swapping the cams for Civic Type R ones, to see how it is.

but i agree, dont hassle with all the changes with the a1, go right for the a2 or a3, would be easier choices.

I've read a few things here and there about b18 swaps but I never really thought about it, can you retain your ac? I think you can with the b16

You can retain AC and PS with any B series swap. Civics in the rest of the world had B16's in them, so it isn't like you're doing something that Honda didn't intend.

Since the b16a1 is OBD 0 and my car is OBD II, what would I do in that case?

you need to rewire your car to accept OBD0, its not worth the time and effort to do this.

Jcrx - all swapped B-series engine require a special bracket for people to retain thier AC, the cars that came factory with b16's have different mounts and front clips then what we have, so a special bracket is needed to clear the space in the engine bay.

www.hasport.com sells the bracket needed.

I suggest getting an SiRII and convert your car to OBDI. You will appreciate not having so many damn sensors.

Hmmm.... never heard that one, you can use the 94+ delsol or the stock one. There is NO difference in the size if the bays or mounts.
