Question Other non-bespoke parts

Have been looking at the Mac ever since its inception and have a great respect for the car and team who concieved her. The whole philosophy behind it was so groundbreaking and so far unequaled.
Most will know that although mooted as a bespoke car in the interests of economy (yes in a car of this price) some items were bought in.
Bova Coach rear lights, BMW column stalks and bonnet / door latches, VW door mirrors, Nardi steering wheel etc.
In the interests of research does anyone have any more snipets of undisclosed info re non bespoke items?

Re: Other non-bespoke parts

The ones i know about are the horn, but not sure what from, the hadlamps were high performance off the shelf items, again not sure of the manufacturer.

However, i do know that the electric window switches are BMW items, and the mirror adjustment switch is sourced from 1990's Vauxhall/Opel vehicles.

Re: Other non-bespoke parts

Hmmm Interesting?

I assumed that as they used VW mirrors they would have used the VW switch with a bespoke facia / knob.
Am sure the H/Lights are Cibie manufacture.
Horn have no idea.
Thanks for the insight.

Re: Other non-bespoke parts

I think this is probably the best place for this question...Does anyone know where the exterior door locks/buttons come from? They look kinda like the rear tailgate lock on a Isuzu Rodeo, only much bigger!

Re: Other non-bespoke parts

Does anyone have the model number for the Nardi steering wheel used? I have a project car that needs a removeable steering wheel and this would be a fun addition.

Re: Other non-bespoke parts

I'm no expert on Nardi wheels but I don't believe the one fitted to the F1 road cars was an off-the-shelf item.

We have managed to track down details on a few of the Personal steering wheels that were used in the GTRs and LMs but I assume they'd be a bit more 'racey' than you would want?

For instance: http://sector111.com/products/interi...l_by_nardi.cfm

Re: Other non-bespoke parts

I agree prety sure the Road car used a bespoke one designed specifically for McLaren.
The GTR/LM use the Personal Grinta Suede covered wheel in 330mm dia and this is available off the shelf for approx £135.
Not sure about the more exotic wheels like the flat bottomed or horseshoe type but suspect from the same family.

Its a 1993 Mustang that is set up to American Iron specs yet still sees some street time... I kept looking for the street car wheel but knowing now that its specifically made for those cars, i'll look around for a Personal steering wheel. Thanks for the info!!!

The F1 road car steering wheel is from the Nardi Torino range, trimmed too McLaren spec of course, they also do a flat bottom version as fitted too #075. For you replica builders, take a look at Mazda,s mx5/eunos Nardi Torino non air bag wheel

As for Mustang fitment, use an aftermarket quick release with Nardi/Personal hole PCD. McLaren use the SPA Design quick release for all F1 variants.

Door locks .....Audi 80 boot/trunk release, ignition barrel (modified) also from the same car.

Mirror adjust switch, GM/Opel Vauxhall.

McLaren used alot of non bespoke parts for the F1, as it would cost to much to tool up, for such small production numbers of components. This does not detract anything from the F1, But I do find it amusing where some of the parts come from

Re: Other non-bespoke parts

Just a little teaser,

Both the F1 road car and GTR,s use parts from this vehicle.

Ford transit van (brilliant work horse)

Can anybody name those parts?

Doing 240mph using Transit bits the mind boggles

Re: Other non-bespoke parts

I thought I had a piece of info that had this sort of technical mumbo-jumbo ( ) on it, but I think my mind is playing tricks on me; I have yet to lay eyes on it
