hybrid ?'s in WA

i need help on completing a swap for my obd2 97 civic hatch in the state of washington. im trying to drop in a b18b. now my ? is what is going to make this a legal swap? i hear that you need the same year engine or newer to be legal. but which part needs to be the same year or newer? can i put a 94 ls block w/ a 97 head? or is the block the one that has to be the same year or newer? and also i'm planning to go b18b-t in the future so will this make a diff in legal issues? any help is thanked.

From what I know it has to be from the same year or newer. I have a 98 b18c1 in a 97 civic. Im thinking that the block would be the one that would have to be from the same or newer year since it has the vin # on it. Let me know if you have any more Q's. stefan525 ( Auburn, WA 98001) [email protected] . Good luck.

b18c in a accord? why not drop in an h series? u can get a h22a for a little less than a b18c5. or even a 91-up h23 block with a h22 head. just my $.02. and if you want to go turbo check out these dyno sheets. http://www.jgenginedynamics.com/dynotests5

Hey... we live in the same area. I'm over by Pierce College and Lakes High School.

To answer your question... you'll need the block that's the same year or newer. They can't really tell if the head is older or not... unless you're using a 5th gen D-series head or something of that nature... but then again... why would you do that, right?

hey wassup ghettolegs - yeah i saw you on the street before going towards lakes/pierce. you're actually the one who made me aware of this forum with your plate frame - ghettolegs/PH.com. i don't know if you remember but it was like a couple weeks ago when you pulled up next to my black 97 ek hatch with the black rims over by chevron. btw nice hatch and nice sounding exhaust and you didn't even rev me which was cool. prolly smoke my a$$ anyway. here's my car

a lot of work to do still though.

Hell yeah I remember you. You were in the right lane and I was in the left, I think. Anywayz... nice lookin' car, man. I didn't know if anybody actually paid attention to my plate frame. Haha. Too bad PH is down though. Oh well. Thanks for the exhaust compliment. It used to be loud but Steilacoom cops pulled me over for some bull crap reasons and gave me a fix it ticket... so I replaced it with my current one... it's got a silencer in it.

Hey... I didn't notice it in your first post until now but you are thinkin' about goin' LS turbo? If you're worried about legality issues... a turbo will be fine as long as it doesn't affect emissions. An LS block is strong and has a lower compression which makes it a good candidate for a big turbo... but make sure you do your research if you want it to be street legal.

If you have questions regarding any other performance parts and whether or not they affect emissions or not... check out this web site:
http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...es/devices.htm
It's the CARB website and they have a list of products that they have approved for street use. You may be able to find a street legal turbo on that page.

Oh yeah... by the way... there's a reason I didn't rev on you. You'd whoop my ass. I'm serious! I want to get a b18c1 GS-R motor and maybe turbo-charge it later... but my last motor blew out on me and I only had enough to replace it with a DX motor. So that's my temporary under-the-hood fix for the time being. I'm also having a money problem right now... my problem is I don't have none. Someone tried to jack my car about a month ago at Drake Apartments (*ahem* SO BE CAREFUL! *cough*) and my paychecks have gone to fix the damage to my ignition and alarm system. My next paycheck is going towards rolling my fenders ('cause the 17's ended up being too big and it rubs hella), buying coilovers ('cause even though I had a 2 inch drop on sport springs... the bigger 17's raised the car up again), getting window tint, and maybe some M3 mirrors. After that... it's all going to be saved up for that GS-R motor I want. Yessss!!!

Anywayz... my name is Chris. I'll see you on the roads and on the boards.

Oh yeah... check out http://www.draglab.com if you haven't already.
There you will find a lot of local racers and an event calender for all the upcoming events in our area. Every few months we have meets where we all hang out for a day and do fun stuff. Hopefully you can join us for the next one.

Late.

see you on the streets chris. my names JR. yeah i feel ya on the $ issue. i had enough to do the swap a couple months ago but bought my gf an engagement ring instead (whoooppishhh). so instead of hearing the sound of a blowoff valve, im hearing "i love you." it's all good though. i just have to go on living on my same clothes and stealing food from my parents house for a couple more months to have money for a swap and turbo again. i might even get my friends ls engine cuz he just got an h22a and is sending that down to jg whenever he has his bills paid off. well anyways thanks for all your guys help!!!

didn't even know draglab was still up. will keep an eye on it.

Wassup, Chad? I don't think I have ever seen your car... but I might have but forgot. Anywayz... I work at the B&I and my car's alwayz out back. Lately on my days off, I haven't been out much because my transmission is about to go out. But it'll be fixed in a week or two. I used to hang out at the water front once in a while but I haven't lately. It seems like a lot of stupid people would show up and cruise through bumping their music just to turn around and squeel the tires. Ooooh... yay... their cool.

Gosh first your engine now your tranny what next?? And you don't even race your car around. I was going to offer you my spare Si tranny, but then I remembered that you have a hydrolic clutch and the transmission I have is a cable clutch so that wouldn't work for you.
