Fujimi Ferrari 250GTO w/ Hobby Design PE

Seeing the beautiful Revell kit posted in the completed section, I decided to take some pics of the 250GTO I've been working on. Been working on this a while, I'm really going to take my time with this kit. Hoping it will be beautiful. I put the first coat of primer on today and then I ran out, so I'll be buying primer tomorrow and giving it another coat and then doing the bonnet as well. Need to do a light touch up on that horse on the wheel though. I might put a decal or something there. This is my first time working with a photo-etched set. Comments and criticisms appreciated
- Tomo

Re: Fujimi Ferrari 250GTO w/ Hobby Design PE

Looks ver nice. I have been looking at getting this kit, now whether I would ever finish is another question. Does the H shifter come from the Hobby Design, or is this in the kit. The wheels are super, are they from the kit? What color are you thinking of?

Re: Fujimi Ferrari 250GTO w/ Hobby Design PE

Hi, the wheels are from the kit, and the gated shifter + gear stick are from the PE kit. It's a great kit OOB, fair bit of detail, no fitment issues so far, but the PE really sets it off. I'm still undecided on colour, but I know it's either going to be red or yellow, as I haven't done a yellow model yet, and I always used the car in yellow in any games it was in. Also for some reason, I don't think my kit came with poly caps? I don't know what to do now.. Any ideas?
Thanks!

I sprayed the body today, now to let the paint cure and then lacquer tomorrow.

be careful with the amount of lacquer, as the paint looks pretty thick as is.

Re: Fujimi Ferrari 250GTO w/ Hobby Design PE

I agree, i actualy wouldn´t clear coat it because the paint layer is already very thick and any more paint will just ruin all the deails.. it actualy looks good as it is

Re: Fujimi Ferrari 250GTO w/ Hobby Design PE

Haha I went a lil' thicker than normal because some of the details are being replaced with PE stuff, like the badge on the front for example :P Thanks, I probably won't clearcoat it after that advice, but I will give it a go over with Tamiya Compound. Built the engine today, I'll include it in an update tomorrow with the body hopefully finished

Don't rush it, with that amount of paint wait a few more days for it to cure before you start polishing it.

Re: Fujimi Ferrari 250GTO w/ Hobby Design PE

Thanks for doing this thread Tomo. Your paint turned out quite nice from the photos. I plan to do this model myself soon. I'm interested in what you think of the fit of the headlight covers and photoetch trim pieces when you get to that part of the build.

Re: Fujimi Ferrari 250GTO w/ Hobby Design PE

Small update for today, with the best pics I could get of the dashboard (camera wouldn't focus on something as small!)
CrateCruncher: The headlight trims fit just fine, but the little screws that come with it don't fit in the holes, but that could be just me. I don't mind not using them though. I used the wrong glue at first (My first time using PE, I didn't know) so the headlight plastic is a bit clouded but I don't mind, it's not TOO noticeable I don't think. Haven't painted the badges, but overall the PE set is great.

(the white bits in the panel lines is dried up polish, will be removed and then the panel lines will be done in black)

The PE dashboard pieces for Jano:

(Yet to scrape the excess glue off there, these were taken in a hurry when I saw the comment)

(again, pics taken in a hurry, need to fix the side of that)

Thanks for the interest guys
I am in no way a good modeller (mediocre at best) so don't judge the quality of this kit or the PE set by my work. You guys would definitely do it better than I have.

Thanks for the pictures.
Take your time don't rush it just for our requests. Hurry is a modeler's worse enemy, from my own experience.

This looks great!
Keep it up!
Great color choice too.

My I suggest you not use black for the panel lines, but a darker gold or somethings slightly subtle.

Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Andy
