Don't buy a Century!!

I recently was in a bad car crash and the other guys insurence company rented me a car while they took care of the paper work, They rented me a brand spanken new Century. As soon as I steped into the car I felt that there was somthing wrong with it, and when i drove it my suspision was cofirmed. As soon as you left granny driving mode the car began to slide and swerve all over the place, the thing had near 0 lareral grip and the ride was like a stalled boat in choppy seas, talk about motion sickness. I did not even get the stupid thing home before I was missing my 96 Camary. Just a word to the wise before any of you buy one please do your self a favor and testdrive a real car first. That is unless a wavy, loose footed, granny car is what you really want.

What do you expect from a car that big? Can't drive the thing like you do your camary. The car is a boat. Its made for comfort and one hell of a ride. Not handling

Re: Don't buy a Century!!

I guess you can't please some people!!! Now I don't come on here and trash the little Camary. But quite frankly I would never want to be in an accident in a Camary, it not made to live thru an accident.

BTW you are in the wrong forum for trashing cars, refrain from doing so in this forum.

You want to know about the Camary, in my 55mph collision, which sent the other guy to the hospitel. I walked out with nothing more than a small scrach on my pinky finger, considering that cars are only designed for 40mph collisions I would say that that car went above and beyond it's calling. So go ahead and try to bash the Camary, there is one person here who will shoot you down. Plus despite being a 4door famaly car just like the Century the Camary holds .80g in the skidpad, and has a awsome breaking. What do you have to say to that.

Re: Don't buy a Century!!

Obviously you are getting defensive over you little import car!! What you don't like getting it but you like to give it, grow up!

Maybe this is why there are thousands of different cars and trucks on the road not everyone likes the same thing. SO if you want to come to my forum and trash a car you better be ready to get trashed back. You were all bent out of shape after wrecking your car nothing would of pleased you!

That guy with his Camray does not know what he is talking about.
I drove many cars since 1959. Including Mercedeses, Ford Taunus, Pontiac, Dodge and can say that my latest purchase (Century 2000) beats them all as far as comfort and feeling of safe traveling goes.
I only put so far 10.000 km on but can see that this car will give me what I want.

Re: Don't buy a Century!!

If the Century is such an awful car then how come I've owned three of them and my parents are also on their third Century?

1988 Century, $275, 217K to 231K, repairs include alternator and battery, gas line (from ten years of Ohio rust), and a set of tires.

1989 Century, $250, 229K to 238K, impounded when I parked in a no parking zone, never a problem with that car, except someone broke out a window and tried to steal it once.

1992 Century, parents bought new, went through a couple of belt tensioners, no other problems, went to 240K then sold and being driven by my dad's mechanic.

1995 Buick Century, parents bought new, never had a problem except for a couple belt tensioners and the AC finally quit after 200K, they fixed that and gave it to me at 224K, I have 236K and still rolling, had to fix a wire under the hood, that's it.

2003 Century, parents bought new, just turned 10K, they put in a CD player to replace the factory radio, not a scratch on it. Maybe it'll be mine in eight years, give or take.

You can't beat these cars for dependability and comfort. If you try to drive it like a Camaro, it'll wallow and complain, and that's because...*drum roll please*...it's not a Camaro.

Let's see, you had a wreck 55mph and your pinky is scratched? I'm willing to bet you're lying. Were you wearing your seatbelt? Then your chest ought to be bruised as well. If you weren't wearing your seatbelt then you're simply lying. Assuming you have a 1996 Camry. Assuming you're even of driving age. Also assuming you even had a wreck.

Now boys and girls, can you say troll?

I knew you could...

Your little comments have no effect on me I don't own a Buick but you come on to my forum and trash a car in a forum that is designed to help people fix their cars and answer their questions. Their is no merit to your post.

I am not defensive I am just stating what I read and see. Please re-read my post and you will see nothing wrong with it. You sat here trashed a car and then you get upset because I trashed your back. I can care less what you drive or what you say you own, so don't think you are upsetting me at all.

I did not get upset. I just enjoy annoying you. No really there is a place for every car I am just of the oppinion that the Century is for very old people who want nothing to do with proformance. Since I love speed so much I am of the opinion that this car is very poor, the only thing that I really liked about the car was the very good very low end torque. Anyway I have wasted enough of your time later.

now, before anybody gets their panties in a bunch, I don't mind the century, my girlfriend owns one and it's not a bad car. However, I do feel I need to say something to Flatrater. You are getting way to over protective of this forum. The gentlemen was simply stating that he didn't like the car and for what reasons, he wasn't trying to get in your face until you got defensive about it.

Re: Don't buy a Century!!

Now, I am not a genious, but would one, ie: our now BANNED friend, be better off telling a Toyota forum not to buy a Century instead of a forum in which we all DO own them now?????

Just a thought

Like I have stated before this forum is not for trashing cars it will not be allowed! Their are other places on the Automotive forums for trashing cars! If you want to trash a car go to the forum for trashing cars and not to the forum for helping people with real problems with there cars!

That is the rule don't like it don't post! I have no problem with people trashing the car but this is not the right forum for doing so!

As for your comment on me being over protective of this forum I am enforcing the rules! If you want to call me over protective for doing a job I was asked to do so be it, I have no problem with being called names or anything else. Just don't break the rules!!
