XJR-9 Silk Cut Jaguar - 1988 Lemans Winner

Another resin Jaguar kit by Starter… The casting was pretty clean overall, only a few pinholes and a little flash. The kit builds one of five versions and includes some extra parts to do so. I cleaned up and lightly primed (in white) the main body before attaching the brass rear skirts and the resin right side panel specified for the winner version.

The rear wing (resin and brass construction) was also assembled and primed before it, the body and mirrors were sprayed base gloss white.

Decaling the body on this one is the single most time consuming part of the build. I started with the front and then did the roof and engine cover. Being older decals, there was some cracking, but most of the cracks were easily lined up during application and barely visible. Just to apply these four decals took about 3 hours. (I painted the black trim and vent details prior to decaling.) Touch up where needed will be done once all the main graphics decals are applied.

Jags are cool, especially IMSA Jags...

The wing gets one wrap around piece of purple decal. The side decals and some top stripes are on too. More cracking to contend with, but nothing catastrophic… I cut the door lines so the decals would conform to them better and will touch up the recesses later.

The interior is done, a simple one piece plus steering wheel affair. Decals are kit supplied.

Wheels and tires are done too. No lettering on the rears since they are covered with skirts.

I cleared the body parts. Because of the color and touch up required around the headlights I installed the clear covers before the clear.

Excellent job, you have done well getting the decals to conform etc and the clear sets it off well.
