94 Civic - Replace center console, add armrest?
I've got a 5th gen civic coupe with, unfortunately, an auto trans. I'd like to replace the center console (where the parking brake comes up, and where the shifter sticks out). Ideally I'd like to add a small compartment above the parking brake as in more recent models.
Anyone know if there are replacement consoles out there? I've scoured many parts web sites, but can't find anything in this category. I'd also like to add a shift boot - just becuase the auto tranny shifter is so incredibly ugly -- I'm pretty sure I can just mod one of the universal shift boots, but if anyone has any better ideas, please let me know.

I think its the LX & EX 5th gen's that have the armrest/compartment thingy above the e-brake. If thats what you are talkin bout. As for the AT, this is the best lookin AT knob I've seen. It goes most of the way down the column. I got it on my car, and looks pretty good. Also, it is possible to pull off a B series engine swap, cuz I got a LS auto. If u do muake that shift boot fit on the AT shifter, let me know, cuz I wanted to try that too, but wasn't sure how, so I got this knob when I found it. If you do this shift boot thing, let me know how u pulled it off. I know it can be done, I saw a pic once of it a few years ago. You'd want a shorter AT knob though for that.

Sweet shift knob -- I picked up one this weekend that's very similar. It looks like you did some other internal mods -- is that the stock tranny indicator?
I think it's going to be easy to put in the shift boot. Here's my thinking: It doesn't matter that I'll cover up the gear selector, as the dash idiot lights do a good job of showing me what gear I'm in. Anchoring the boot is going to be another problem though -- obviously I can't mount a boot ring, and I'd rather not drill any exposed surfaces. Anyone have a pic of the center console on the EX/LX, with the armrest above the brake handle? If I do manage to find a replacement console, I should be able to anchor the shift boot to the underside of the console. I have a story -- I'm in the Puget Sound area, and they've just opened a new sporting good store, GI Joe's sporting & auto. In addition to a whole store of baseball bats, they have a 'performance auto' section with -- I kid you not -- "Fast & Furious" branded tailight kits and other mods. I felt pretty silly, but then again I did walk out with several armfuls of stuff, including the shift knob and some sweet carbon-fiber looking things. The sales clerks don't know what to think, and clearly are caught like a deer in headlights when it comes to the whole racerboy thing.

That is actually a pic of the knob on a car in Japan, it was a better pic of it than the pic of my interior. Here's that pic. Not too much, but some stuff. THat shift knob, black leather e-brake boot and black and chrome e brake handle, carbon fiber eurodash and indiglows. The indiglows match the organic EL display onmy premier deck, so it looks dope at night. The reason the tranny shift indicator is reversed on the other pic is cuz its in japan, where the steering wheel is on the other side of the car, so its all reveresed. Theres 2 G.I. Joe's near my house too. Never bought any stuff there expect sportsing goods, gloves, and some car detailing items like McGuires when they are on sale. I was suprised to see that APC and Pilot motorsprts made that knob now. Back when I got it like a year or a year and a half ago, it was made bye the japanese companies, so all the instructions where in japanses, lol. It was made bye Levoc, I think, and the company that makes Euro-Type-R. Napolex (Levoc) was $80 for that aluminum/carbon AT shift knob and Euro-Type-R was $42, so I got that one. There was another sweet Levoc one too, but it was $100. I got a pic of one that would look dope with a shift boot, would trick ppl too, cuz it looks manual. Looked dope though. They have all sorts of dope AT knobs in japan.
