Tamiya Toyota GT-One TS020

Started this build a few weeks ago, and thought I'd share here.

Tamiya's 1/24 Toyota GT-One TS020, as run in the 1999 24hrs of LeMans.

So far not a huge amount to show beyond the basics, filling in all the punch marks, sanding down mold seams, etc.

However, I have managed to get a few notable things done.

On this build, I've decided to really push myself, to see if I can accomplish what I'm hoping I can do. On this build, I'm opening both doors, detailing the cockpit, and then detailing the engine as best as I can. To go along w/ this, I'm using carbon fiber decals extensively, since the real car had exposed CF everywhere except for the painted exterior of the car. Decals are all from Scale Motorsport. I'm also using the SMS photoetch set for this model.

Doors cut open

Still working on working on the doors, but they are coming along nicely.

I've also removed some molded in electronic's boxes in the cockpit to make things easier to decal. I've also found out that one of the boxes is wrong, and shouldnt be there, so it wont go back in. The other boxes will be decaled & wired up separately and then put back in when assembling the cockpit.

Right now I've begun the arduous process of making the templates for all the different CF decals. So far I've managed to get the decal for the chassis pan cut out, very happy about that one. Next I'll start working on the templates for the cockpit, which is going to require a lot of decals. The part that worries me the most is decaling the engine cover. Its pure compound curves, not sure there's a flat spot anywhere on it, so getting the multiple decals cut & laid out for that is something I'm not looking forward to. Its going to be a nightmare I think, to get the weave pattern on the decals to line up so it looks good.

Re: Tamiya Toyota GT-One TS020

Thanks guys. I've been making forward progress, but nothing to take pictures of. I spent most of the long weekend working on making the tape templates & cutting out decals and its taking a whole lot longer than I was hoping. I also knew it wasnt going to be an easy task, but I'm finding it harder than expected, but I'm hoping the results will be worth it.

Re: Tamiya Toyota GT-One TS020

Thanks Daniel!!

I found your completion thread on the Miniwerks forum, and it was linked to a German forum, and I'ev been using that thread for a lot of help on my build. I'd already planned on doing a lot of this stuff, but seeing your build helped me figure out how to do a lot of it. Thanks for posting the link to here it here where its all in english, haha.
