nissan 300zx turbo '83, tamiya 1:24 modified

Hey every 1. After having done some ferraris, lamboes and other classics, I've decided it'd be nice to taste some of that tuning magic. It was actually a coincindence as I purchased tamiya's nissan 300zx to find it very unattractive as a model. Tamiya made the early and - imo - least interesting version of the car. Fortunately, I found this thread:

http://www.ziptied.com/forums/index.php?topic=6734.0

It's almost exactly the same z31 that I've got. The only difference is the targa roof which I'm plannig to make. The biggest mods will concern cars nose, wheel arches, smoothing the body, etc. Hope i'll get somewhere with it.

Decided to widen the hood a little couse it leaves some nasty panel holes

That's what I'm trying to do:

cheers.

I look forward to this build coming together. I have the crappy Fujimi version in progress.

Thnx

I've started working on the nose. Have no dimensions of the thing, so I'll be usng the force i guess. I'm trying to keep the putty off the car, at least as long as i can.

That's the lower part, yet to be processed;]

cheers.

Up.

I'm still struggling with the front bumper. Here's the progress report.

I think it's still protruding toomuch. Will have to sand it after putty dries.

cheers.

Thnk u;]

Got the wheel arches (almost) finished. Also, there are 2 different wheel sets - 16" and 19". I think, I'd try to go for sth like 17" with a chunky tyre.

cheers.

Got the hang of the hood today. Did some thing with it:

- got rid of the original scoop
- smoothened the hump
- introduced my own scoop. It's a work in progress tho, have to wait until the glue dries, as it's very delicate now.

cheers

Re: nissan 300zx turbo '83, tamiya 1:24 modified

K, so here goes some bad news. I'm stuck with the front lip - Can't get it right (size, shape, etc.) I've already had 5 tries on it and that's the last one:

Couldn't stand the look of it so I got rid of it. Maybe number 6 will turn out ok.

Did some stuff with the rear of the car. Cut out the original trim and put in some stuff i could see in the pics of the real thing.

cheers.

Few more pics of the progress...

I reshaped the front lip, actually cut it off and made a new one. It's very thin so there'll be some panel lines madness after coating the bodywork. I think it's more less the final version of the front spoiler. Also, drilled the signal lights holes and I'm trying to make the interior more 3D-ish;]

cheers.

Re: nissan 300zx turbo '83, tamiya 1:24 modified

2 new things worth mentioning.

1. I don't have any spare bucket seats so i decided to try and make some on my own. I used the middle part from tamiya's kit. It's just a initial stage. Once the green stuff dries I'll try to sand it, smoothen it, etc.

Next, I'm happy with the hood hinges. They seem to be working fine and are quite tough. Also, the hood can be easily taken off the car.

Need to work on the fitting tho.

cheers.
