slippin trans, drive in 2nd then shift? good or bad

Hi, i have a 2000 lx civic it has 122,000 miles my trans is lagging into 2nd sn jumps wen it shifts, i put some trans fix in about 2 days ago, havent noticed a differnce, someone told me since its stuggeling outta first i should shift is my self(its automatic) my car have a d4, d3 an 2nd, they said to put it it 2nd until u notice it jump shift from before then shift it d3... Plz what should i do!!!!????
