Do any one of you Intrigue owners have this annoying problem?

Ok, I've had quite a time with the turn signal bulbs and its getting on my nerves. About three years ago I purchased a headlight assembly complete with all the sockets and bulbs, which I went through a body shop to get at a reasonable price. Fast forward to last year, the turn signal in that asembly plus in the other stopped working. The rear signals work fine. First, I pulled out the newer asembly and to my horror, wasnt authentic GM parts (you get what you pay for). The sockets and wire harnesses are way different and the wiring is thicker than the GM version.
Looking at both signal sockets, they both seemed to have experienced alot of heat as they were both burnt. I then went to the local GM dealership here. Showed the parts dept the aftermarket socket with the GM socket. He ordered a replacement socket but tried to locate a parts number for the aftermarket assembly to try to order me another, there was no parts id. He told me that recently GM no longer sends headlight assemblies complete, you have to individually purchase the sockets. It would've ran me over $200. I said screw that just order me the one socket.
Once it came in, put it in worked fine until now. Replaced bulb, no effect. Checked socket, and looks burnt. Wanted to hulk out and smash stuff. What is with the turn signals on this car? Is GM making crap-tacilar parts? Any insight will help.

I can't explain why it happens, other than it's caused by high resistance. Next time you replace the socket and bulb, apply die-electric grease to the socket terminals and bulb contacts. Be pretty liberal with it, but not just a big blob either. This should help and/or eliminate your problem.

Yeah, I applied diaelectric grease to the replacement bulb three weeks ago and it went out. When I pulled the bulb from the socket, the area where the grease was at was white and dry, looking at the socket, it looked like some parts of it melted during that time. I do have half of mind cussing out someone at GM corps but I know it wont get me any where.

I can tell you why this happens. It is the flasher in the Intrigue, except it isn't set up like a normal flasher in most cars. It is integrated with the hazard button
The part costs about $70 shipped and is described as the hazard switch. I had burned through 3 bulb sockets before replacing this and have never had a problem since.

Never had issues with it other than burning out the bulb sockets. But that is no longer a problem either since I got the new hazard/flasher switch

dialectric grease is expensive, high voltage, and is used for distributers etc.

You should be using bulb grease or conductive grease.

Using dielectric grease on a bulb with either work extremely well if there is good metal to
Metal contact (grease will insulate voltage in) or will provide a mountain of resistance if the grease is between the metal contact.

Thank you, I'll look into this. Never thought to look there, though it should have dawned on me considering a year ago I replaced the hazard switch on my wife's Pontiac Grand AM. It was causing turn signal issues, it wouldn't blink most of the time. And when it wouldn't blink, it made an annoying "buzz" noise until switched off. I'll definately look into this and thank you.

Re: Do any one of you Intrigue owners have this annoying problem?

I had this issue with my 2000 oldsmobile intrigue One replace both headlight Assembly's with the aftermarket one that meets OEM specs cause there sealed better and the wiring in the aftermarket ones is thicker and much better the run about 80 dollars per assembly second replace the hazard flasher relay its built right into the flasher button to fix this pop out the center vent above the radiator with flat head screwdriver be careful not to break it the right in side the hole to the left youll see ith a plug and play type of thing just pinch the bracket and it pops out reverse to install new one this fixed my issue never had problem since
