Question water temperature sensor

Hi everyone
What a great place to chat with bmw owners like myself.. Don't know if anyone can help me with this.. My water temperature sensor is broken so I have brought a new one but can't seem to find where the old one is to replace it. Tried looking everywhere but can't seem to locate it. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.. Thanks look forward to chatting with some of you soon..
Mel

Re: water temperature sensor

your '84 E23 has several 'water temp' sensors. you'll have to be more specific.

Re: water temperature sensor

not 100% sure. Still quite a novice. had car now for about 4 months. I explained to my local car parts shop that my temperature gauge had stopped working and this was the part he sold to me that he said needs replacing. It says on the packaging coolant temp sensor..

Re: water temperature sensor

okay, it will be in one of two places. on the housing the theermostat is in in the top-front of the engine OR below the center of the intake manifold [underneath it] in a 'coolant sensor block'. in either case there will be 3 -4 sensors there and assuming they gave you the correct one just match them up.......good luck.
