Looking for headlight assembly, if it says fits dodge will it fit plymouth?
So my mother has a 97 plymouth neon.
She says she always has trouble driving at night because of the headlights. Looked at it to see if they need adjusting and the headlamps are all clouded over on the inside. Like a white coating. So I was looking around for replacements and found some at good price on ebay. But they say they are for dodge neon. Im assuming the dodge/plymouth neons are pretty much the same thing But can anyone verify that? Thanks |

Yes, the Dodge and Plymouth Neons are the same car. The Dodge came with a couple of things as 'standard' that were options on the Plymouth, but the headlamps are the same.
The typical cloudly headlamps can be cleaned up - sort of. You have to start with about a 600 grit emery paper, and using a little water, to sand away the outer coating of the plastic lens. Then use a 1200 grit, for more cleaning, and maybe a 2000 grit to finish up. Then you use a polishing compound, like the 'Chrome Polish" products in auto stores. This will remove the faded and cloudy outermost coating of the plastic lens. It wont clean up any fading and dirt from inside the housing though. Auto parts stores are now selling kits of the stuff to clean and clarify the murky headlamp assemblies. New headlamps are the better solution though. We have a 97 Dodge Neon in our family, and we replaced the headlamps about 4 years ago. What a difference when driving at night! You may find the rubber 'grommets' around the headlamps break apart from old age, but they dont affect the operation of the headlamps or the hood at all. To change the headlamps there are about 3 or 4 screws you need to take out. The one that you cant see is hidden back in the fender, on the outer side of the headlamp. I reach it with a 10" extension on the end of my 3/8th" drive ratchet. A 1/4" drive ratchet would also work, using a 10" extension in the 1/4" size. I think the screw or bolt has a 10mm head, but its been a long time since I did the work. Anyway, be sure to push the rubber grommet to one side, so you can peer back along the side of the headlamp to find that other screw/bolt holding them in. |
