Re: Do K&N Make A Differance in my 89 Ford F-250 HP?
Have to be honest with you K&N is all in a name....
Race cars use them but they also get torn down and rebuilt all the time. They don't belong on anything you want to last. Paper is were its at. Albeit the factory boxes usually can let some crap through, but as for the media itself paper is where its at. Unless a box is made to draw air from outside the engine bay, open element filters take in hot engine air anyway which is not good for power either. The charts might show a power increase but that is usually way high in the rpm range were any sane everyday driver won't be. They are loud and sound cool to some guys, but in reality open element filters are supporting mods. A stock engine is not going to benefit much from a modified air intake in the power department. As far as helping your mileage the absolute best thing you can do is change your driving habits. SLOW AND STEADY makes mpg. No jack rabbit starts and driving 90 miles per hour down the interstate. Your right foot is the best mpg mod. Most of these miracle mpg products are witches brew. If Ford or Gm or Dodge or anyone else for that matter could miraculously get 2 or 3 more mpg don't you think they would? In the competitive world of cars if X got 20 mpg and Y got 25 mpg they would have a serious edge. Especially in the high gas and bad economy we have right now...
