Heavy Haulage - Boat Transport

This is my lastest construction is already completed( just almost) . This is a boat Haul. This is what I have put together for a total, eight hours. This will be behind a DAF xf 105 tractor.
I decided to start with the trailer to give me some motivation and I think it has exactly that. I think the trailer came out exactly as I had planned with some minor modifications..

A point I have to stress here is that in my reference pic I could not determine whether or not the trailer had suspensions or not. It was very difficult to see. By looking at it you would assume it did not have any. But I could be wrong as I cannot see any. So, I modeled the trailer without one because it would be difficult to model a suspension without knowing the construction of how it looks. So please keep this in mind. Thanks. Here are my reference pics, to show what I mean:

The added details took me some time though but I think the results pleased me.

Re: Heavy Haulage - Boat Transport

I could not get the windshield any better than it already was after trying to remove the extra paint and scratches. So I just made it to look like it had been oversprayed with heavy mud/dirt/grime. I'll try and get the areas with the wipers to show through a little better. But this is how it looks after extensive hard work.

The complete build. Still have to add a few details to the tractor.

Re: Heavy Haulage - Boat Transport

Wow that trailer is looks great. I work with hydraulic boat trailers everyday and this looks the part. One thing that you could think about adding to are the pads, what the boat is supported by on the sides. All of them have either screw heads or adjusting pins to adjust to the boat after the keel has been supported. Also the cross beams usually have a "V" pad in the bow and can be slid front to back. The rear cross beam almost always uses blocks of wood for the stern support. It looks fantastic just as it is! Great job

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try and add them. Thank you.

That scratch-built trailer is amazing and the whole used look of the model as well.

Thanks for looking gents. I still need to add a few more details and rectify the fuel tank seams. Then I'll be satisfied. I will be testing to see if a boat would bring it out more or less. I think it looks good just has is but would like to test a boat as haulage to see the difference.

Impressive model, both the scratch built trailer and the tractor look very realistic due to the added detail and well executed weathering!

Tiking you are the hot ticket on AF right now!
Your subjects bring much refreshment to the forum.
The model that you have done is exellent and i love the scratch
building. When i first opened the page and read the first paragragh
i thought you would do a model of the first reference photo. This
trailer seemed more "aggressive and tougher". What made you
decide to do the second reference model?

Thanks for the comments from you all. I tend to go the extra mile with my builds simply because I like to be a little different. I am appreciative that you likr the build.

Re: Heavy Haulage - Boat Transport

Hi,

great idea, great execution - this model is really impressive.

(Nevertheless some little critics: IMO on the fuel-cell on the right side of the truck the seam of the two halfes can be seen, the silver tape on the cabin roof is too thick and the dirt on the windows too heavy, especially in the area of the wipers)
