Car Lighting and HID
Ok , so here is my situation, i bought the hid kit with the ballast and it didnt work well so i am returning it, anyways i was wondering , is there bulbs out there that you can get that are just hid bulbs without the ballast? or will that damage your wiring in the car because there is no ballast part? or how does this work? i would like just the hid bulbs

Re: Car Lighting and HID
As far as I'm aware, part of what makes the system a true High Intensity Discharge system is the high voltage for the bulbs. You won't get that high voltage without a ballast.
If all you're end goal is is to have the "look" of HID bulbs, you can get halogen bulbs tinted to give the blue or bright white color temperature of HID, but you won't get the full lumens of real HID. -Rod |

Re: Car Lighting and HID
HID are all about INTENSITY (hence the name). To provide more intensity, you have to provide more current, and hence you need more power dissipation. You can get white bulbs that are slightly higher power, but you might melt your components and/or wiring.

Quote:
The power company does a similar thing to distribute electrical power to homes and businesses, stepping up the voltage up to thousands of volts AC, but at very low current to reduce parasitic loss over the aluminum wires, then steps it back down at transformers near the end user. When stepped back down, the lower voltage can provide much more current. -Rod |

Re: Car Lighting and HID
hid xeno bulb cannot used only by bulb, have to be used with hid ballast together,i am from manufactory of china,so i know about this things,as the 3rd floor guy said,it all about intensity current, hid ballast can control the current which will be input to the bulb

Yup, ballast, ulb and wire can sell separately.

Re: Car Lighting and HID
Hid light kit will be used widely as bright on shining. Cos too brighter and easy to make car accident, most of country was prohibited using it. Check you side.

Re: Car Lighting and HID
HID isn't worth it unless you have good projectors and a good kit. Other wise don't waste your money blinding other drivers with your scattered beam!
