95 Astro starts with starting fluid and speed up when put in gear

Hi all, newbie here:
My Astro started doing weird thing a couple of days ago, started and ran fine then I noticed when I engaged it in gear the RPM goes up drastically (500+ rpm) so bad you had to keep foot on break to keep it from lunging ahead. Also did this in any other gear. But shift back to park or neutral and it idle's back down to normal. Then yesterday it will only start with starting fluid. Checked pressure and with key turned it goes to 58psi, it jumps to 62psi while cranking. Shut key off and it holds at 58psi. After getting it started with a shot of either, is holds at 58psi. Does anybody have any ideas? Sorry for long post but wanted to make sure I got it right. BP
