Turbo ..... Wannabe?
Have about $3500 with me. I want power,
But i also want something that won't break down in 60,000 miles or so, even with baby caring. Was thinking.. what would i need for a turbo on a SR20DE? Or, if i buy a DET, any ideas on the price for one of these, spare parts prices etc? I've been readin up on turbo installs and turbo theory (Mike K. is crazy smart)...... Now im all interested Was thinking of running 230 or so HP...... is that to the wheel or crank though? T25 turbo with 8psi should do it i've read :0..HELP IM CLUELESS! -Phil |

OK, here's my recommendation if you want to go turbo. The installation is more than we can do for a geekout, so you are going to end up having to pay someone to do it. At least I've found a shop that will probably be good for this. DET vs adding a turbo is a toss-up. It's probably more complex to add a turbo since you have to drill and tap the block. Adding a turbo will likely be a little less expensive though and T25s can be had relatively cheaply. I still think using a DET is the better way to go, but I don't think you have enough budget to get one and pay someone else to isntall it. BTW, go out and get a will drawn up. Put me down as inheriting your car, because your parents will kill you.

Pick up the Nov'01 Issue of Sport Compact. Our own George Roffe goes through an entire SR20DE to SR20DET swap into a P10. It is of great interest if you are looking into this type of swap.

Funny that u mention the parents thing...
In all actuality, i think they would support me on this, haha. If i end up being able to get a turbo for this car, im going to keep it. See..... my parents want to buy me a car for graduation.. im getting into U-T Austin with a 100% free ride, WOOHA. So, instead of me making them pay for college, they buy me a car. So, its come down to.... Subaru WRX, Honda s2000, or being able to spend big bucks for big bang on my G20. If i end up getting a totally new car, Most likely gonna try to sell it for around 7-8 k or so... depending. I'd think my parents would save arouund 12k with me getting a DET instead of a new car ;p Don't know.... How much are NEW DET's (Where would i get one.. Luke?) And how much are used DET's around ..... say.... a reliable 30k miles ;p Then, compare a t3/t04 hybrid turbo...... and sticking that in my car. I'd compare the prices, but none of the se-r project cars list prices.... Although i do agree the T25 is too small revving at 250000RPM. If anyone can get me an approximate price for a t3/t04 hybrid install vs DET install, would be appreciated. *Geo, whats the shop that your talking about? And... if i manage to get a DET, ,can i just swap it with a DE straight up, or do i have to replace this and that and junk.....? Geebus..... I've lost my mind. -Phil |

DET it is.
Now..... finding out if i get into UT. Muahah! So.... if im correct..... I'll need about 2500 total to get a DET into my badboy silver G20? Does a DET click in directly to replace the DE? (with the stock top mount intercooler) ? If i want to move it in front of the radiator.. i guess i'll have to fabricate my own piping like yours eh? -Phil P.S. Thanks for the help everyone...... ..Primera? Boo, i consider US "Primeras" simply as "G"s... I'm not into the euro theme, ha ha j/k
