park brake lawsuit against GM

today I received a letter giving me notice of cost recovery for my defective park brakes that GM never could repair !

I am very happy that this issue is finally being resolved. this was appealed to the supreme court. only took 10 years . american justice works very slow...

anyone else receive this notice ?

Hmm, I have not seen anything on this yet. Was there an opt in letter for the classaction? What is the remedy?

Sincerely,
Matt

the manual transmission had a park brake recall. the auto did not. so this applies only to the automatic transmission..

why ? do you still have issues ?

one part i have never had a problem with. wonder whats differnt on the manual and a auto. i have been having major issues with the cap and rotor on my truck its a 4.3 2004 burn out one a year. my first one went under wornty. the dealers around here acted like they could not find the problem. i found it befor taking it in. the next time it went thought my fuel pump went. drve the truck home would not start the next morning. just run for a sec back fire then stop.

you know its bad when i can find and fix a problem trained dealers mechs cant. i have found a mech close that only uses a computer to check to see if the problem is what he thinks it mite be. he is very good, loves to play beat the computer.

Re: park brake lawsuit against GM

the park brake is the same on manual and auto . obviously the use of the park brake with the manual is required so it must work. this is why NHTSA made a deal with GM to just make right the manual tranny vehicles, and not force them to fix all vehicles with this defective design.

this was most likely like the runaway toyota issue were NHTSA did a very same deal.

when you haul or tow with the auto tranny you need a park brake that works...

4.3L engine issues with distributor are how the wires are run . must be run correctly, crossfire and damage can result.

distributor caps/rotor do require replacing.
operating the vehicle with low fuel levels overheats the fuel pump.

Re: park brake lawsuit against GM

I want additional information on this issue. I have a 99 Silverado Z71 with 5.3 and auto. It has 4-wheel discs, but the emergency uses some little shoes in drums that are part of the whole rotor assembly. the shoes would drag all of the time and so I took them out and threw them away, but I would like to get it fixed as it is very hilly here and I need to chuck the wheels sometimes when parking or I have trouble getting it out of park.

the updated park brake shoe kit I got [autozone]appears to stop the shoes from flopping around ,,,which is why they wear out. since this has not been used on your vehicle for a while make sure the cables are good. also get new rear rotors.
