b20 head swap

hey guys, i know you have probably heard this question before but ill go ahead and ask it. i was wondering if you could take the old b20 prelude motors, and put b series vtec heads on them, such as the b16 or b18c heads, such as on the b20s from the crvs. and if so would the old b20 mount up like the new crv motor? any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks

the b20's from the old preludes were probably one of the worst motors honda ever made. in my opinion.

THAT sure helped him out.

yes, it's doable, but with some extra effort. not worth the cost at all. try looking for a B18C for a motor swap for a more effective outcome.

those motors, which is what i have...
are pretty nice..
they have as much tq as hp, which is nice in a honda...
and the head swap will work on it...

oh, why are those motors so bad?

the b20s aren't that bad...they just don't like to be screwed with...trust me...mine's been a pain, but i'm adopting a new one on Tuesday so maybe it'll be less of a teenage pain-in-the-arse than my old one...lol

good luck on the head swap

Which is why Honda based the B16a and B18c on them?
Yeah they must have been really bad for Honda to have based thier most succesful and famous engine on them?

Now as Drift said its a doable swap, but is not worth it.

Its simply easier and IMO cheeper to swap in a B18c.

B21a1 engine swapped to B18c1 engine

What all would it take to swap a B21a1 engine in a 1990 Prelude to B18c1 engine??

for the amount of money, you may as well go for the h22 swap. it makes more sense. you are going to pay just as much for b18 as for h22, and the install is going to cost the same if not more... if there is a kit for the b18 install...

you generally don't want to go for a motor that has less displacement than you do however...

The B20 engine is not the best performer, but with 325,000 miles on my 89 Lude 4ws it is by no means a "bad' engine. I am however researching putting in a B series VTEC, non hybrid, as I think this would kick butt with my 4ws. Either that or get a Teg.
