02 Gtp doors unlocking themselves

So on my 02 GTP the doors will unlock themselves for no reason and it's pretty random. It initially started about a year and a half ago and hadn't done it until 2 weeks or so ago. In the matter of a minute it will unlock itself sometimes up to 10 times. It's really weird a frustrating. It does it sometimes even when the car is parked and shut off. There is no aftermarket remote start or anything like that. Everything is 100% stock. I looked at the window switches before and unplugged both driver and passenger side and it still did it. So please help!! lol Thanks!

Re: 02 Gtp doors unlocking themselves

I've seen that symptom once and was caused by water getting into the contacts at the door switches, you mention you have already unplugged those which (in my opinion) could lead to a problem with your alarm system. Have you tried removing the alarm system's fuse?.

This might be very unlikely but is your keyfob working properly?, it comes to my mind that the buttons might be dirty and getting stuck causing the remote to keep unlocking the doors.

Best regards,

Oscar.

Re: 02 Gtp doors unlocking themselves

I haven't removed the alarm system fuse but I don't think it's the key fob. If it was wouldn't the lights flash like they normally do when you actually do hit the key fob to unlock them? Right now when it unlocks you can just hear it unlocking and when you're in the car driving around you hear it and see the door locks turn to the unlocked position.

Re: 02 Gtp doors unlocking themselves

Ah good one, I never thought about that, I'm sorry for the mistake. I'll check my diagrams and see if I can find something. Hopefully a more experienced user will show up with a good advise.

Regards,

Oscar.

Re: 02 Gtp doors unlocking themselves

The BCM controls the entire door lock circuit in this case. The switches are routed straight to the BCM and from there the BCM controls the voltage output to the actuators. I would suggest checking the connections at the BCM for any corrosion or bent pins. Do this with the battery unplugged. The BCM is located near the drivers feet. You may have to remove the lower trim to gain access. Its just two screws and some snaps.

I will see if I have a picture of the BCM or a wiring diagram.

Re: 02 Gtp doors unlocking themselves

Tim sent me a Private message regarding this issues. I asked him if his car has a remote starter or if it had ever had one installed.

Tim, I think you said that you do not have one, but how long have you owned the car, and has this issue been going on since you owned it? Is it possible the previous owner had a remote starter installed and removed it before you get the car?

Re: 02 Gtp doors unlocking themselves

Oscar thank you for your help. Tblake, I have owned this car since 2005 when it had 40,000 miles on it. It now has 117,000 and there was no indication that the previous owner had remote start. In fact I can't be sure but I think this was an off lease car. When the problem first started was the first time it ever happened a year and a half ago. I had never heard of anything like this happening either. If it is a bad BCM or whatever part you were saying is that an expensive part and hard to replace? Thank you both for your help so far!

Re: 02 Gtp doors unlocking themselves

Not sure on the price of the BCM. I've never had to change one.

Here is the GP door lock circuit

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/527...rdoorlocks.jpg

See how the door lock switch circuit is independant from the door motor actuator circuit? The BCM controlls the door lock actuators.

You could have a bad BCM or Keyless entry receiver.

Have you tried reprogramming your remotes via removing the MALL PGM fuse? I'll see if I can find those instructions.

Re: 02 Gtp doors unlocking themselves

Here is keyless entry programming instructions. You need to reprogram ALL your remotes once you remove the Mall PGM fuse.

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=974969

If this process doesn't work, your BCM or Remote keyless entry module may be bad.

Also keep in mind "accessory" position for the key is back. Like back, how you would turn on just your radio. I spent about an hour trying to figure out why my car wasn't going into programming mode one time......brain fart.

Re: 02 Gtp doors unlocking themselves

Just to let you guys know I haven't messed around with this issue since it literally stopped doing it again the next day after my last reply. If it starts again and I get it figured out I will surely let you guys know!
