Re: 2001 oldsmobile intrigue 3.5
Have you tried replacing the thermostat with a new one?
If your reaching 4000 rpms in either Park or Neutral the engine is doing exactly what its supposed to. It wont rev higher than 4000 rpms in those situations. Or are you talking about the engine begins to run rough after 4000 rpms?

Re: 2001 oldsmobile intrigue 3.5
If you figure out the overheating issue, let me know. Mine has been doing it since this past winter. Would always do it on very cold days, below freezing. Now its doing it when its really hot out, 85 and above. Between those times, not problems. I tried 2 t-stats and everything else I could thing of. Very strange problem these 3.5L have and NO ONE can give me and answer to what is causing this. There is never a rhyme or reason because sometimes when its hot out, it runs normal. Sometimes having the AC on causes it to get hot, then the next time it makes no difference. I have had it to the GM dealer and to a cooling specialist and neither could get it to overheat. It just was one of those days when it decided to act normal. Its like they know when the mechanic is looking them over. Very frustrating
I told my wife, drive it until it blows up or until I can find a cure. |

Re: 2001 oldsmobile intrigue 3.5
hi, I just got a 01 Intrigue, and it has a little over 93,000 miles. the transmission was just rebuilt last year, and now the engine is making a sort of loud knocking noise, but only when you hit the accelerater. (if it's idiling, it's fine). I have a feeling that I will need to replace the engine, but 1) does anyone have an idea of something else that could be causing it where I might not have to replace the engine? 2) does anyone know of an easier way to change the engine besides the large thourough process of taking the whole front end out? thanks
