No Dome Lights/Door Lights/Hazzards
Working on a '97 Mercury Sable for a friend at church. The car does not have any dome lights, or entry lights on the doors, and the hazzard lights do not work. I checked all the fuzes and they look good. The dome light does not come on when I move the interior light switch all the way up. The owner said he was told its something in the steering column. Also read posts here that I need to spray WD-40 (water displacement/40th attemp) in to the key holes. Did not try that trick yet. Any ideas?
Also the heater hose connects to the intake manifold on top. The small nipple on the intake manifold has rusted through. Can I buy that nipple from Ford, or do you have any ideas how to fix? |

No lights etc would seem to be broken wire or more likely bad fuse. There are also some fuses in the engine compartment you want to check. A bad steering column switch is possible but if you plan to DIY beware of setting of the bag as they are both dangerous at close quarters and expensive to replace. Check nipples at Autozone and at least get part number. Good luck. |

Re: No Dome Lights/Door Lights/Hazzards
I drilled out the nipple hole in the intake manifold with a 7/16 inch drill, then tapped it with a 1/4 inch pipe thread tap. Screwed in a brass nipple with pipe thread on one end and hose brads on the other. Have not tested yet.
Still stumped on the dome lights not working. I'll dig into them more on Wednesday night. |

Re: No Dome Lights/Door Lights/Hazzards
Fix for dome lights that stay on. I've read post on here to spray WD-40 into the door switch. That doesn't mean to spray WD-40 into the key lock. To fix the lights, open the door and take a screw driver and close the door lock manually like the door is shut. Make sure the lock is all the way in the closed position. Now liberaly spray WD-40 and some oil on the back side of the lock. The back side of the lock is like a cam that opens and shuts off a switch to the interior lights. The switch gets sticky and won't close all the way, and the car thinks the doors are open. Be sure to do this trick to all 4 doors. Each door has the same switch. I tore all 4 doors apart to find out how the switch actually operates. Took a lot of time. Could have fixed it in about 5 minutes, instead of 3 hours!

Did you ever find the solution to this problem? |
