Current WIP Maserati 250F

Hi,
this is my current WIP. I love the 250F and after seeing Aldo Carvalho's model a few months ago, I had to have one.
I am going to do the Pescara GP version as I think it will be nice to have my Maserati in a different colour to red.
I have started cleaning up the resin parts and thinking about the suspension, also need to make a fuel tank from polyester putty. Brakes are done and the wheels came from ebay a few years ago, wires are ok but the tyres are a bit non-descript. The resin wheels/tyres supplied in the kit are quite good but I will probably use the PE wheels.
May use one of the Renaissance steering wheels as well.
Regards, Steve.

Re: Current WIP Maserati 250F

Made some good progress today. Wife was at work (lovely overtime!) So I vacuumed all through the house (brownie points!) and got to work at the bench.
Finished thinning out the shell and drilled all the holes required for mounting the side fins, etc. I have also added some card stock to the front half to prevent the see through effect from the exhaust slot and the rear of the seat as well.

I have added a boss on top of the rear bodywork, to which I will add a MFH fuel filler cap. The oil tank filler will be scratched up as the Maser has a very distinctive pointed catch on it. I have opened up the hole a bit for this but I was unable to grind out from the inside as that part of the shell is solid (could be done but I classed it as too much work)
Some rudimentary detail has been added to the front hubs, brake lines, etc.

I am going to make the rear lever arm dampers for the rear next but they will have to be added after the body goes on the chassis.
Cockpit is largely complete, pedals in etc, I will be painting this tomorrow while the shell has a soak in some bleach and dish drops to remove release fluid.
Covering night shift this week so I am on my own again tomorrow.

Regards, Steve.

Re: Current WIP Maserati 250F

This is coming along nicely. I have just painted the body in Zero Racing White. Chassis is taking shape and has had initial paint applied. I have painted the seat and kit steering wheel. Seat has had some weathering/staining.

This is the first time I have had to mask a vac formed windscreen so I hope it comes out ok.

Regards,
Steve

Re: Current WIP Maserati 250F

Almost ready for final assembly now. Decals were a bit interesting, had to get the hair dryer on hottest setting and I was worried about melting the resin! Knew they would be trouble when I slid one off the backing paper and it stood up on its own. Still, they went on in the end and 2K clear followed a couple of days later.

The MFH gas filler cap was driving me mental. Two WM castings and 3 P/E parts for one cap. It does look nice though. Can't wait to start getting this together.
Next pics should be in the completed section.
Regards, Steve
